Amit also said that he named his bakery RD’z 1983 because his father’s name Ramesh starts with R and his mother’s name Durga starts with D.

Millet is gaining widespread popularity globally, with the United Nations General Assembly designating 2023 as the International Year of Millets during its 75th session. Across the world, countries are actively participating in millet production, spurred by various awareness programs organised by governments. Notably, India organised a Mega Millet Festival at Rajghat, Delhi, to promote millet cultivation. Amid all this, the success story of entrepreneur Amit Soni came to the forefront during the exhibition, where he showcased his bakery specializing in millet cookies.

Amit Soni, an MBA graduate formerly employed in an MNC, took the entrepreneurial leap in 2017, driven by the desire to start something of his own. In 2019, he established RD’z 1983, a bakery acclaimed for its millet-based cookies. The complexities of creating a perfect millet cookie became evident when he received an order for a millet cake from the ICAR department of Rajasthan. Inspired by this, he ventured into making millet cookies, a task that proved challenging.

Initially unfamiliar with the process, Amit underwent 57–58 trials, experimenting with ingredients until he achieved the right recipe. Persistence paid off after more than 97 attempts, leading to the creation of the perfect millet cookies. His breakthrough came when a personal trainer at a gym became his next client.

The choice of the name RD’z 1983 for his bakery holds sentimental value. ‘RD’ signifies his parents’ names—Ramesh and Durga—while ‘1983’ marks their marriage anniversary. Starting with an annual turnover of Rs 35 lakh, the bakery has witnessed remarkable growth, now boasting an annual turnover of approximately Rs 1.5–2 crore.

Amit shared insights into the bakery’s evolution, noting that at the beginning of 2023, he produced 3 to 4 kg of cookies daily. However, in response to growing demand, the production has increased significantly to 50 to 55 kg of cookies per day. His journey from an employed MBA graduate to a successful millet cookie entrepreneur exemplifies the transformative power of persistence and dedication.
